Varappety Mahadeva temple is located in Varapetty, a farmer's village of pristine beauty with a variety of cultivations ranging from pineapples to rubber trees, which is 7 km from Kothamangalam, 6 km from Muvattupuzha in Eranakulam District.
Varapetty Sri Mahadeva temple is one of the major ancient Shiva temples in Kerala and is situated on top of a hilly area and devotees need to climb steps to reach the temple. It is believed that Lord Parasurama did the consecration of the deity here and is one among the 108 Shiva temples which are held sacred by devotees across the state. Tharnanellur Illam has the Tantric rights of this temple and is believed to be given by none other than Lord Parasurama himself.
The temple is having a copper flag mast and a big Aanappandal (elephant portico) in front of the temple. In front of the sree kovil we can see the Namaskara Mandapa with the two-tired sanctum rich in architectural compilations which itself speak volumes of the stylish demeanor of ancient marvelous monuments. The temple is more than a thousand years old and is definitely one of the ancient abodes of worshiping Lord Shiva.
The temple has a sacred pond of its own andis believed that there is having a divine spring of water where Lord Shiva comes to take bath and this holy bath will be witnessing by other Gods and Demi-Gods prayerfully.
Annual festival commences on the first day of the month 'Meenam' (commencing in the middle of March) and gets over on the 8th day.
